Courses Overview

Our Courses

Students at the MNSP have the unique opportunity to access a unique range of qualifications within a supportive school environment. These range from combining vocational qualifications with A Levels, allowing students to tailor their curriculum to their individual needs and interests. All students take three courses in Year 12, although some students opt to take four, for example Further Maths is offered as a fourth option. This course combination is available at both the MSN Sixth and Writhlington Campus.

Please find entry requirements for MSN Campus here, Writhlington Campus here and Somerset Studio School Campus here

Students can also choose to specialise in a more vocational route, choosing to take a T level at either our Writhlington or Somerset Studio Campus. We are unique in that we are only school in the Bath and Bristol area offering these courses in a school environment.

A Levels
A levels are two year courses. Study begins at the start of Year 12 and continues into your second year in the Sixth Form. Each A Level course contains two or three modules. All exams are at the end of Year 13. The final A Level grade can be used to enter Higher Education.

BTEC Extended Certificates
BTEC – Level 3 are the “real world” equivalents of A Levels. These qualifications are the most popular vocational qualification in UK further education, recognised and respected world-wide and valued by universities as well as employers. They also enable you to go on to study for an Honours degree. The ‘single’ is equivalent to one A Level. Further information on entry requirements can be found in the Pathway Guidance Booklet or on our virtual open evening site.

Extended Project
You can choose this course as part of your curriculum in Year 13. You can complete a project in any area that interests you. Students have completed projects on a wide variety of topics, from ‘What Position should Sharia Law have in the UK?’ to ‘Medical Negligence and its Impact on Society’. This is equivalent to an AS Level, and is highly regarded by universities as it allows you to demonstrate your passion for a subject you may want to study and will also enable you to develop your ability to research and work independently

T Levels
We are delighted to have been chosen as a provider of this qualification. T Levels are the equivalent of 3 A Levels and  are brand new courses developed in collaboration with employers, so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work, and is based on the same employer-led standards as Apprenticeships. T Levels include a mixture of classroom learning (80%), ‘on-the-job’ experience (20%), and industry placement of a minimum of 45 days. We are the only school based sixth form offering these courses in the Bristol and Bath area. We are offering T Levels at both the Writhlington  and Somerset Studio Campus. See our T Level page for more information on this exciting new qualification.
