T Level Education and Childcare

This study programme will provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment or higher-level training or study in the wonderful world of Education.

You will attend Sixth Form to learn the knowledge and skills needed for your qualification, and you will develop your workplace skills by participating 2 days a week in a reception class or early years setting.

Topics you will study include:

●Child development

●How to support children in education

●Safeguarding, equality and diversity

●Observation and assessment

●Special Education Needs and Disabilities

●Working in partnership with parents and other  professionals

You will also look in depth at the Early Years Foundation stage framework and other key documents to support your learning.

Resources and activities on the course are designed to follow active learning principles and include:

●A range of setting/class based activities such as planning and designing age appropriate activities for children

●Working in groups to present information or create interactive displays

●Design leaflets, booklets or posters for parents

●Learning how to plan an enabling environment for children

●How to work with other professionals and parents as well as independent study and research tasks.

Assessment is through one core paper and an employer-set project at the end of the first year followed by 3 assignments (practical and written) in the second year of the course.  

• Assignment 1 - 50% all practical work in your placement - planning and leading small group activities

• Assignment 2 - 25% Written activity planning

• Assignment 3 -25% Part practical in placement and part written.

This qualification will support learners to access a range of progression routes including an immediate licence to practise as a level 3 Early Years Educator in Early Years settings. This is the only T level that provides this!

The degrees that previous learners have progressed into include teacher training such as a BA (Hons) in primary education with QTS or early childhood studies, or a BA (Hons) in Education.  Early Years students have also been directly employed in local nurseries, schools and schools for children with special education needs and disabilities within our Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership.
