ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE (LEVEL 3 V LEVEL)

Overview

The V Level in Accounting and Finance gives you a practical, hands-on foundation in how money powers real-world UK businesses. Forget dry, boring theory: this course puts you in the driver’s seat to see how financial details shape big business decisions every single day.

Through real-life case studies and active scenarios, you will build the skills to read, analyse, and evaluate financial information across all types of organisations, from sole traders and global corporations to public services and local charities.

What is the course about?

The course breaks down into five exciting, practical core themes:

  • Smart Financial Decision-Making: Learn to decode financial reports, calculate real profit and costs, manage cash flow, and track differences between planned budgets and actual spending.
  • Business Health & Performance: Use key financial metrics (like profitability and liquidity ratios) to check how healthy a business is and track performance trends over time.
  • Strategic Planning & Investments: Explore cost behaviour, find break-even targets, and use payback calculations to decide if new investments are worth the cost.
  • Ethics & Professional Integrity: Discover why honesty, confidentiality, fairness, and official regulations matter so much when reporting financial data.
  • Digital Financial Communication: Master professional financial terms, spreadsheets, and modern accounting software to present key figures clearly and persuasively.

Assessment Method

You will demonstrate your knowledge through a balance of exams and practical tasks:

  • Core Knowledge and Understanding (Written Exam): Assessed via written exam to test your mastery of double-entry bookkeeping concepts, key accounting principles, and ethical standards.
  • Applied Assessment (Coursework & Practical Assignments): Assessed through coursework and practical assignments focused on real-world business scenarios, where you will analyse ratios, explain budget variances, and solve realistic problems.

(Note: Assessment focuses on how well you analyse financial data and make smart recommendations. You won't have to produce long legal financial statements or manually write out bookkeeping ledgers.)
